Still No Love

Well, we are still locked out of our blogs and I am beginning to think it is permanent. It is really annoying, because the majority of mil blogs that I read are highly supportive of our effort over here and in my opinion help to counteract some of the bias from the media. I really don’t understand why they don't want us telling us our story and keeping our friends and families up to date on what we are doing. It is especially aggravating for me and the guys in my unit, as we got another 4 months added to our sentence and our blogs were a nice break from the day to day grind that is our 16 month vacation.

To add insult to injury, I went down to the MWR lab to post a story and the server was down, so I can't even go that way. So, I'm pretty frustrated with the whole thing. The MWR route takes at least an hour from start to finish, for a task that used to take about 10 minutes. I'll do my best to keep the posts coming but I've been pretty busy lately and it has hard to find the time to sneak away for an hour. I do most of my posting at night on my off time, and most nights the last thing I want to do is make the hike down the MWR building and wait in line for a computer. I know it isn't that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things and I could have it much worse, but this blog was one of the few things about Iraq that kept my in touch with those of you at home so it is hard to have it taken away without any explanation.

We grilled some steaks tonight in celebration of the Super Bowl. They were pretty tasty. I would put up a picture, but, well you know. SSG Johnson's parents sent him a toaster oven so we had some cheese bread for a side item. We also toasted some sandwiches today and that was a nice change of pace. We are getting up at 0200 to watch the big game. Tomorrow will be a long day for sure. The only negative is no commercials for us. Just an endless loop of the same crappy AFN commercials we have seen 10,000 times.

Theater policy allows for a 4 day pass to Qatar every 6 months in theater. Our Brigade originally didn't allow anyone to take a pass due to manning requirements, but since we got extended we all should get the chance to go. I am slated to make the trip sometime in March. Flecker was supposed to go today and be the guinea pig but the flight got cancelled so he isn't going for another week or so. You can go jet skiing, go shopping in a mall, see the town, and drink 3 real beers a day. Most importantly, you get away from the office for a few days, which will be nice. The guys I work with are great, but after 10 months of seeing them everyday, all day, a break won't be a bad thing. We haven't started fist fighting yet but the verbal sparring has increased.

Can’t really think of anything else exciting to share. I better go try to grab a few hours sleep before the big game. Have a good week.

You must be tired today if you got up at 2:00 a.m. to watch the Super Bowl game. I'm not much of a football fan, but did watch a little of the game. My younger sister made a few bucks because she had her money on Indianapolis.
My boyfriend and I like reading your posts and was sorry to hear that you got locked out of your blog site. I think it is understandable that many people were upset (more about your extension than the work you do). We liked the pictures, too. I bet there will be quite a few puddles of water in Florida after the rain they got this weekend. Glad you'll get another furlough, but will be happier when you all get home.

Knowing that you were originally scheduled to be "there" on this date, somehow makes it just a little easier to say: "Dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah....Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to my favorite soldier.....Happy Birthday to You!"
Have a good, good day!

Sack, did you have a b-day??? Happy belated.

I had foot surgery last Friday so I'm laid up for 6-8 weeks and after that, I will have my other foot done. I can't even think about putting a shoe on and running....it's bad enough hobbling around the house on crutches just to get to the bathroom!

Qatar sounds like a nice break and a little something to look forward to. I know the blog means a great deal to you guys, but don't worry, your faithful readers are still out here. Take it easy on each other over there!

Ma Beans.

It's pretty stupid to lock you out of your blogs; all they're going to do is make people wonder what they're trying to hide. And you're right, nearly all the milblogs are supportive of the war. Even the ones that aren't offer a lot more balanced view than some of the media.

With all you're being asked to do, it would seem the least they could do is let you blog. And let you watch the good commercials. Somebody must be bored, so they've got to invent niggling little rules to keep busy. Or maybe they've got a "stupid rule" quota. :-D

Reading the other comments, it seems you recently had a birthday. Happy Birthday! Please know there are a lot of people over here who do appreciate what you do. The rest of 'em are idiots, anyway. :-D

Hey Love,
Ben and I went to the Outback last night in honor of your 31st. Big Steve came along to help with Ben and ofcourse pay for dinner. It was yummy. Can't wait until we can go there together, Love.
We miss you and love you so much.
Happy Birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SACKER!!!!!!

Sounds like Big Steve, Rik and Ben celebrated the way you would have liked especially with Big Steve toting the bill. I can't wait to see the day that Benjamin throws down the Outback's Big Boy Prime Rib just like his papa does with juice drippin' down the chin and all the trimmins'. I'd be honored to purchase his first. And then someday, when he's seasoned and ready, on to grillin' up a nice 32 oz. Leon's ribeye with an ice cold Blue & Chrome. That's what "quite a while after the 4th of July" and birthdays are all about, right? Nice!

So what's got to be done and who needs to be smakced for the whole decision thing on the Blog block. You're almost at 9,000 visitors deep buddy. You can't stop now! This blog is kinda our (your faithful readers) version of "The Truman Show" with Jim Carrey. I guess they are just going to have to send ya' home.

Ma Beans, sorry to hear about the feet. I wish you well on a hopefully speedy recovery.

Stay sharp, stay safe Sack!

Hey Steve...

Great post, even without pictures.
I hope you had a good birthday...well, as good as it could be. With the way Ben likes to eat he may be at the Largest Prime quicker than B realizes!

Speaking of B, Congrats on making the force. :) And Ma Beans get better soon! I hope this isn't a result of the curling iron burn. ;)

Hey Sack
Happy (Belated) Birthday!! I'm sorry to hear that they shut down your blog, you know they can't keep a good man down. I know you can and will find a way to keep us inform. I am really glad Erika gave me your blog, I found it pretty cool. Duck told me you were training and looking pretty sharp, he wasn't lying I guess. Take care and talk to you later.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have now "celebrated" 2 birthdays away from home, my 30th and 31st. Not that I was that sad to be gone for my 30th. Wasn't very exciting, although I did have some cherry cobbler and ice cream for dessert with lunch. I also had some presents that I got in the mail that I waited to open until the day so that was fun.

Ma Beans - sorry to hear about your foot. I'll be praying for a swift recovery for you. I'm sure the Chief will take good care of you.

Rick - I tried that site but no streaming media allowed. Brad's family is sending us the unedited Super Bowl so we'll get to see them pretty soon.

WA - I like your last quote and I think I'll use that for myself if you don't mind. Nice!

Rik - yummy! We are going to Outback right after I get back. Did you get the 23 oz Fosters in my honor? I wonder how old we have to get until we have to start paying for our own meals. I hope never!

B - I'm going to bring that up, I have PTSD from not being able to blog. It just might work. And congrats again on getting selected to the Greenwhich PD, been a long time coming and you deserve it.

LAW - thanks, I know my birthday next year will be that much better having spend 2 away from home.

Brandee- Thanks for helping Dan out and sending my package. The chips were tasty, I still have one bag left. And the game is kicking my butt.

Luu - Good to hear from you. No kung fu on the altar.
