Gettin' Some Stick Time

I saw an article in one of the magazines I read, Business 2.0, shortly after Christmas that extolled the virtues of the latest toy craze. It was about mini RC helicopters and how they were the most popular toy of 2006. I was instantly intrigued, however, since we were due to head out of town shortly I decided against purchasing one. Well, once we got the news that we were staying, I decided a little break from the mundane would help cure my ills. I went out and purchased one, and even roped in SFC Kerchal and SSG Johnson. LTC Apprich and Chief Regan soon followed suit with a purchase of their own.

Here is the my chopper and controller, going through the pre-flight charge.

This one is a little blurry, but shows my lil' guy up in the air.

Getting ready to launch. They will take off from a flat surface or you can toss them around which is quite fun.

Hovering above Hammer's desk. My heli is drawn towards Hammer's work space, I think because it annoys him greatly.

In flight, out the door of the S1 section.
These helis are a ton of fun, but unfortunately they are only 2 channel (up/down and rotate left/right). You can't really hover or fly back and forth, they are so light that any air current moves them around. The main thing is just keeping them in the air and away from obstacles. They can really take a beating as most flights end up with a crash. I must say that I've become quite addicted, so with the wife's permission I am in the process of upgrading to a 4 channel model that will go forward/back as well. More to follow on that....

Hey, glad to see pictures of you back to your "old" self again and a smile on your face. You guys are so silly!

Now you know what it's like to be a kid again on Christmas morning and getting the hottest toy around. That may have been just what the Dr. ordered.

Guess we really do take for granted what it takes to cheer you guys up over there huh? Here I thought all you needed was protein bars, candy and video games?????? Nothing like a good toy to cheer you up - glad it has helped the long days go by a little quicker. Even if it does annoy Hammer!

Recovery is going better than it did a couple days after the surgery, thank you. The Chief is taking good care of me and each day is getting better and better. I had the bunions removed from both the inside and oustide of my right foot. I now have 3 screws and a pin in my foot. In 6-8 weeks I'll have the other foot done. Better to have it done now than when the weather gets nice and all I want to do is be outside. It's barely been in the 30's and the forecast isn't much better so I'm content to be wrapped up in a blanket on the couch for the next 2 weeks.

Maybe I should get me one of those helicopters... :)

Take Care!!

Steve,

Nice copter. I am sure you and Ben will have tons of fun with it when you get back. Just don’t leave it grounded for too long, as my “gas powered” Chevy HPI 4x4 may just run over it.

I am glad to hear you had a good birthday. I celebrated for you with a Leon’s big boy rib eye. Just the way you like it, medium rare with mega Misty’s seasoning. Speaking of Misty’s seasoning, how is your supply? Do you need a new supply drop?

Callahan signed another good recruiting class. A very heavy emphasis on the defense this year.

Cally, Sam Keller and Dan Knee told me to tell you “Happy Birthday” and that “Everybody was Kung Fu Fighting, they were as fast as lighting”

God bless and stay safe…

Hey Kane… NO FEAR!

Nice work with the Chopper. Surprised it's not all blackhawk, cammoed out yet.

Nice to see you got back some way to post pictures and what not.

Dan, I'm like Pavlov's dog when you guys even mention a Leon's ribeye. I need a drool bib for when I log into Sack's blog just in case someone brings it up. Nice!

Chopper boy, fly smart! Stay safe!

The new chopper isn't here yet. I did want to correct that is actually a six channel and not 4. It will do pretty much everything a real copter can.

Dan, I remember your 4x4 fondly and driving it right off the stairs at your house. Oops. I've always been clumsy. We are actually getting a low on Mistys, so if you want to hook us up that would be great.

B, SFC Kerchal painted his and then it didn't fly so good, so I avoided that. Maybe my new one... although I've heard you want to be careful because they are small and you may lose sight of it.

Ma Beans,
I think you need one. I'm sure the Chief can use some of his aviation warrant officer buddies to get you hooked up. Glad to hear the recovery is going well.

Brandee I think they sell them at Target and Wal-Mart now. Picco Z sold the patent and they are called the Air Hog Heli or Havoc or something like that. You can also find them online but the ones off the 'net will most likely be a knock off like ours were. I found out after I bought it that the place we ordered from has been issued a cease and desist order to stop selling them as they are not quite legal.
